Officer Specialist School

Enrolments

Officer Specialist School provides educational programs for students with mild, moderate and profound intellectual disabilities.

Enrolments

Officer Specialist School follows the Department of Education’s Enrolment Policy for the enrolment, placement, and transfer of students.

Officer Specialist School caters for students with an Intellectual Disability (IQ below 70). Spaces at Specialist schools are limited and there are specific requirements to meet before enrolment can be considered.

In circumstances where the school may not have capacity to accommodate all applications from eligible students, the school will manage enrolment requests in accordance with the following priority order of placement:

1. Students with a sibling at the same permanent address who are attending the school at the same time.

2. Students who reside nearest to the school.

In Victoria, all students with disability have a right to enrol at their designated neighbourhood school, where they can access supports, resources and classroom adjustments to meet their needs. The Find my School website https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au/ can help you identify your designated neighbourhood school.

Specialist schools, including Officer Specialist School cater for the specific educational needs of students with a disability and have specific enrolment criteria.

Student enrolment must be approved through a Specialist School Disability Verification request. This process is completed by the students current school for general enrolment enquiries and by Officer Specialist School for Prep students.

Specialist School Disability Verification

Special school enrolment in Victoria requires verifying a student’s disability category through a structured, evidence-based process.

Schools must complete a verification form with supporting, up-to-date documentation (reports, assessments) and submit it for evaluation. Outcomes are usually provided within 7 working days, allowing for, or denying, enrolment based on specific criteria.
